CAMP ROPER
Camp Roper: Test your Limits with Primitive Camping
Camp Roper is a Scouting campground located at 24350 U.S. Highway 27 in Leesburg, Florida, made possible through an agreement with the Roper Family for shared use with the YMCA. Serving Scout Troops, Crews, and Ships, it offers a quiet, undeveloped setting that supports traditional outdoor experiences. Though near major roads, the camp feels secluded and is surrounded by wetlands.
The camp is designed for back-to-basics, wilderness-style camping, featuring designated tent sites, fire rings, trails, and minimal infrastructure. Campers park near the entrance and hike to campsites, bringing all supplies due to limited water and primitive restrooms, which reinforces outdoor skills and self-sufficiency.
Camp Roper is commonly used for weekend campouts, wilderness survival training, merit badge activities, and conservation service projects, and it emphasizes Leave No Trace practices, safety, and environmental stewardship.

CAMP MITCHELL
Camp Mitchell: A Natural Florida Habitat
Camp Mitchell offers a quiet, undeveloped setting of pine flatwoods and natural Florida habitat, providing a remote, backcountry feel despite being located near Lake Helen and Interstate 4. The camp can support multiple Scout units at one time, with ample space for patrol‑ and unit‑level primitive camping across approximately 500 acres.
Camp Mitchell provides primitive open camping areas with fire rings and natural trails. There are no cabins, utilities, or developed program buildings, and parking is limited to designated access points, often requiring units to hike equipment to campsites. Water availability is limited, and restroom facilities are primitive or nonexistent, so units must be fully self‑sufficient.
The property is commonly used for weekend unit campouts, Scoutcraft and wilderness skills training, backpacking‑style experiences, leadership development, and merit badge work, supporting its role as a conservation and primitive camping property within the Central Florida Council.
